Using the site

Build-a-Kanji and the origin pages are free to use for personal learning. Please don’t copy the puzzles or texts in bulk or republish them as your own.

Accuracy

Every origin is checked against at least two sources, and we label stories where scholars disagree (ONE THEORY). Still, kanji history is full of debate and we can make mistakes. The site is for learning and fun, not a scholarly reference. If you find an error, send a direct message to @kanji.unearthed on Instagram and we will fix it.

We link to dictionaries and other sites we used as sources. We don’t control them and aren’t responsible for their content.

No warranty

The site is provided as is. We may change, pause or end the game or the email list at any time.
